So.. 6 years ago.. I bought a 2g, with a blown transmission.
Tore the transmission down and rebiult it. I had no idea what I was doing and did everything with the guidance of the internet and a few mildly experienced freinds.
I used old used parts we had laying around. And didn't even use new syncros because I didn't think the tranny would ever work.
6 years later.. Racing ever weekend I could.. Low 11s, and 1.70 60fts and daily drove this car to work every day.
I bent rods, wore out clutches, blew turbos.
But the tranny never gave me a problem.
Last week... Against one of Jamie Valcamps 10 second runs.... I lost second.
Wouldn't events shift into second. Every other gear was perfect. Just no second.
We tore it down today, and to my surprise... The gears were still mint. No cracks, chips, or missing teeth. The syncros were really bad... But they were not new when installed 6 years ago.
So later this week, we will rebiuld the clusters. And throw her back together. Hopefully figure out why it won't slide into second. We think it's the dogs.
But we are not transmission experts.
So we will see. I have enough extra parts kicking around so we should be fine and running in no time.
Transmissions.... Much easier that rebuilding engines!
