1g DSM is by far the easiest to work on from all year DSMs and Evo I to X, plain and simple. I own them all, 1g DSM, Evo 7, and Evo X... Once you have an Evo X you wont really care about street driving your 1g anymore My Evo X is making over 400whp on the stock turbo. It's my daily driver Evo, the 7 is the time attack/circuit car, and the DSM the drag car. I own shop plates and can drive any car on the street in a heartbeat. With all of the above, you'll find me driving my 2016 blacked out Dodge Ram 1500 sport most of the time

Get an Evo, sell me the 1G stuff That being said, Reza is correct in that you won't beat the ease of working on the 1G. If you want something that handles, you can make a 1G handle as well as any Evo, but it's gonna be a lot more work vs. the Evo (8-X, for sure) handling way better out of the box. That being said, besides the stuff that is now not available or is really hard to get, the 1Gs are dead-nuts reliable if maintained, and even at 40k/year mileage cost little to run and operate. Evos have the better manual transmissions and better diffs, not sure about axles/driveshafts. As far as practicality, with the hatch, a 1G is about as practical as a 2-door, effectively 2-seat car gets. You already have the 2G's, the Evo adds a lot of practicality and can actually comfortably fit adults in the rear - that in itself makes it hugely appealing. I love cars that are practical AND fun.

I realize that this post is pretty old, but allow me my experience.
I love my 1gb. But parts are hard to find and the rusty fenders p!ss me off. But nothing is better than driving that car in the summer. It handles well, and she's been great to me.
The Evo X is a great joy. It often makes me forget the happiness of the Talon. I have the auto with the paddles, which is kinda cool. It's really fast, and he's hard to tame (my kids love it when I push the car)
Bottom line: I couldn't choose between the two.
But practicality reasons: Evo X Four doors (I can carry all my kids in the one car - I have four kids) I love the climate controls; and the seat warmers when it's -20C I love the AWC controls - Snow; Gravel; Tarmac (do they really do something?) I love he lazy controls (radio, computer screen, etc)
But I still don't get any respect in either car when they line me up on the FU lane.

I actually picked up the term "FU Lane" from another member here years ago.
It's those two laners that end just after the light. A hundred metres or so. And it's not like they can't see it. They are being @$$ clowns...simple as that.
The other driver sees your "slow" Talon or Evo. Changes lanes into the FU lane in order to make a quick acceleration past you. Pretty much an "FU" to you if you allow it.
I still get mini vans attempting to overtake me on the FU lane. Don't know why...but Talon or Evo like to play sometimes...

While you may not notice if the selecting the settings does anything, one thing I can assure you of is if your ayc pump goes for a crap(you will not have any of the snow, gravel or tarmac settings available). You will notice not having it, at least in the snow. I also have the MR(so it’s fully loaded with options), and after owning it for 7 years it still brings a smile to my face while driving it. It’s been such a joy to daily drive even though I would say that it costs more to maintain and is a pig on fuel. My 1g is strictly a weekend summer car, I honestly hardly ever drive it, also the Evo X is in a totally different league when it comes to handling. I like the 1g for its rarity and rawness, and yes a few less gadgets to break down then the evo. Each car has earned their place in my garage.

We work on all of them in the shop, 1G, 2G, Evo 7 8 9, and most of all Evo Xs day in day out.
I probably tune and build the most Xs in the region. We do everything from several clutch jobs a month, full 1000HP capable engine and transmission builds, and tuning them day in day out....
Evo X's are still harder to work on than a 2g DSM. Most jobs are a pain in the butt unless you have access to a hoist. 2G DSM, not quite the case.
If I was to work on my Evo X at home, I could do it as I know all the tricks and have all the tools to do things efficiently on jack stands at home, for the average DIYer doable but not still as easy as a 2G DSM.
