Anyone who follows me on facebook probably already knows but for those who don't I finally upgraded my intercooler.

I've put it off long enough but after logging 156°F IAT temps last year, enough is enough. Pump gas and high IAT just don't get along well, so I just kept putting more water on the fire to keep the house from burning down so to speak and by water I mean meth and water, a 14gph nozzle to be exact.
I wanted to go with a tried and trued ETS intercooler but with the current economy, purchasing said intercooler while living in Canada, was not very friendly to my wallet at the current near 30% exchange rate, effectively making a $660 intercooler into a $985 one after exchange and import taxes. So I sought out something comparable at a more cost effective price range that A) would work with my existing piping and B) let me keep my OEM fog lights. The Treadstone TR1045 seemed to fit right in the bill.

I did however find a lot of conflicting info regarding the Treadstone cores, some said they were great, others said they were no better than your next average eBay Chinesium core, then found some saying they were a nice middle ground between the well know Garrett cores and the cheaper cores. At under half the cost of the comparable ETS core, I decided to take the risk, buy one and try it for myself.

Here's some comparison shots of the new Treadstone and the old Punishment Racing:

Yes I keep my crash beam(QC is very stingy on removing things like this)

So here are the results from my first 3rd gear pull with the new core, same boost, same tune, same ambient temp(within a degree or 2), I tried to keep everything the same as possible. Results speak for themselves.

And finally, here's my full video install/review:

frack dude thats amazing!!

How much was that core?

By showing how much light can pass through we are I assume we are trying to tell how much heat transfer is going on?

Wonder how VSRF would stack up to this thing

Also what is the top half on the inside of the treadstone that we can see in the inlet?

I paid $315 US shipped + taxes at the border.

The air molecules need to bounce around and make contact with the aluminum to transfer heat, having a straight shot through, most of the air never touches the core.

The Treadstone has a diverter plate in the inlet to force half the air into the upper portion of the core.

It's a modified FP Red by Turbo Parts Canada with a billet 35R wheel and 9 blade turbine wheel. It's pushing 55-60lbs/min on average.

So bigger intercooler, bigger turbo and same trap speed. Looks like no difference to me, you just drove the car harder, lol....All the BS comparisons aside love trap speeds they don't lie your still going only 131 mph wink ....

Same trap speed but last year it was on E50 at 36-37 PSI of boost, this year was on 93 octane pump from the US and a smaller meth nozzle at 32 psi, no difference? Later this year I will start to push it and see what more I can squeeze out of it.

Turbo is actually no bigger, same size compressor wheel, just billet and lighter rotating assembly, the low end is where the difference is, it gained about 400rpm spool.

It's the same friggen trap speed.... Weak imo, your car seems to be stuck at the same power level... Either you don't know what your doing, or you need some tuning help.... That thing would crack like low 500 whp on my dyno haha... 131 mph = 131 mph..... Sorry explain to me how your car was faster again.... So it spooled faster but top end was slower??..... I hate these dumb threads, worthless. Seems more like a post where your trying to fool everyone in thinking you did great, when in reality its the exact same sh!t from what I can see. Hey you bought some new parts, they look great, I'm pretty sure they work great, you probably just don't know how to go faster on them.. I see guys like you day in day out, I do this for a living now. Didn't mean to bust your "hey my car is was faster now but went the same mph thread" hahhaha

On a side note IMO that Treadstone IC is garbage. Looks like you just replaced a cheap China with another cheap piece of China. That fin design is garbage, plain and simple smile Sure it probably works better than the old China. Go look inside a Garrett core, No comparison smile

And that's all he was trying to show here, that this is better than the punishment one. Not all of us are ready to throw money down for a Garrett. Also if this falls in the cheap chinese category this one is pretty damn fancy, most of the ebay ones have straight through fin design where this has staggered so better heat transfer. Also need to remember that the more dense those fins are (better heat transfer) the more pressure loss their will be and less cool air that will pass through the intercooler, and considering Jason still daily's his car I am sure that might be a concern for him. Overall I think it's a pretty good bang for the buck.
I am sure Jason still has some tuning to do, so we will have to wait and see if he can put down some better trap speeds.

Thanks for posting BTW, did a nice dive into intercoolers so definitely have some thing to think about when it comes time to update.

Well the IAT logs certainly show improvement.
But too many variables changed between runs to really make a final call either way...

I look at end results, looks the same to me LMFAO...dont care about logs and all the other BS...Treadstone IC is sh!t, plain and simple.... Bigger China heat soak....also I went from 129 mph to 136 mph 12 years ago when I was running 10s on pump gas and methanol only from a 3" China core to a 4" China core... Ya something definitely off here....

I'm not really sure how someone who places himself so high up in the tuning world can't see the difference between trapping 131 on 37 psi of boost pressure and trapping 131 at 32 psi of boost pressure. Is the car making more power than last year? Currently, no but what it is doing is the same power at lower boost with more headroom. I can't conceive how you can not understand this for a guy who does it for a living. I can't recall saying it's faster either. Simple fact is I've not even had the time to up the boost and see what more it can do. I dropped the boost a little, made sure my fuel is in line and sent it.

It's funny your opinion on the Treadstone changed so drastically compared to a month ago on Facebook when I was posting my initial results. I know it's not the best, I even said so. Did I hit a nerve when I called out one of your boys making 1000whp on a wet block on E85 with a single set of FIC 2150's? You're right my car will barely crack 500whp, because THAT'S WHAT IT DID LAST YEAR on Buschur's dyno. You can do the calculations yourself, 3240lbs race weight and 131mph trap, puts it a blond cunt hair over 500whp, sounds pretty spot on the money. I'm not the one claiming to make 1000whp where the math doesn't work out, unless you're running like 60-70lbs of base fuel pressure on that car.

If you want to get petty we can talk about the transmission you built for a local to me that your nice rattle can paint job chipping off all over the place and leaking oil in two places that I fixed.

Funny how you can be so nice and supportive in person but turn into a real keyboard warrior online.

Am I the best tuner? frack no. Am I the best transmission builder, frack no as well, I'm still learning both these things, I don't claim to be anything but a DSM guy learning how to do these things, sharing my experiences and having some fun along the way.

I'm sorry I can't impress you, your majesty, it's not been an easy year, trying to find time to accomplish stuff with the car between spending 4-5 days a week at the hospital with my father since February, maintaining a 60h a week job and keeping the family happy. Sheesh, tough crowd.

Jason D is a solid DSMer that knows this platform really well. He started 2018 with 10 second slip which is very impressive IMO... considering his doing all work by himself including tuning.
When JD launches his DSM the planet earth spins a second faster on it's axis (or slower depending which direction he goes east/west).
Lets just wait and see what the man will do later this year after the shootout. No fun having mechanical issues before shootout. Shootout is priority!

I have a better idea Reza, why don't we stop by Dynotune racing before the shootout to get things checked & dialed-in on the dyno?...in the controlled environment free from cops haha
With that being said, i will also be in GTA August 13th with EVO X and will tag alone with JD and everyone else heading to the shootout
I'm sure having our cars checked on the dyno and talk through our experiences will be a great thing for everyone.

LMFAO something is drastically off... Bigger IC and spraying meth, end result is the same... PERIOD....ill take the smaller one back, not the heat soaked pos.. Cheers... Dont like my opinion, so be it no need to cry on, I still think that treadstone core is crap, your results proved it lol.

Again just pointing out how sh!t the IC is, lol didn't mean to hurt your feelings LMFAO

Alex, sure you all can stop by the shop. I can rent out the dyno accordingly.. Believe it or not, DSMers are cheap nickel and dimers unfortunately. Every DSMers still tries to nickel and dime dyno time, and they get what they pay for, sometimes nothing lol....sure get together a group of DSMers who can dish out some cash for dyno time and maybe I can get something going. Oddly enough the same DSMers who probably have never experienced a dyno in their life, are dyno experts in this day and age.

Let me know if you can even scoop together 2 DSMers to rent the dyno and we'll talk....

Facebook is fine for keyboard fighting.. leave it there.

This forum has dwindled down to a few good friends.

There is no room for bashing someones efforts.

This is our club. Let's keep it progressively positive.

We all see how these tuner vs tuner arguments end up.. fruitless... and a waste of time.
And I think they are silly. And only making people hate people more. Never gaining anything.

On that note..

Congrats Jay. .

Running 10s on lower boost then when you were stuck in the mid 11s.

With upgrades that you paid for.. by making videos to help other dsmerz.

Nice.

Guess you should beat me this year then?

Lol ya I get he's your friend LMFAO looks like I hurt more feelings when I said 131 mph is 131 mph, but the IC is still sh!t.. Treadstone Pile of crap... Look at the stupid fin design again.

I ran sh!t intercooler to 10.7 and 136 mph over 10 years ago, who gives a sh!t if it ran 10s now in 2018, that wasn't the point LOL... I guess these are the small differences that always kept me away from 95% of the rest of the DSM population, they just don't get it...oh boy..

Why start crying after a little criticism on the results? I don't know. Maybe some of you guys shouldn't make public posts if all your looking for is looking for is a pat on the back, like grow some fracking skin already.

It's just funny watching such a cheap China part get soo much credit. Carry on the discussion, I won't say anymore....

If there was ever a time for a George Costanza eating popcorn gif, this is it. rotflmao
But seriously, great writeup and review Jason. Same speed with less performance required, it's pretty clear to see that you've created a more efficient system.

I'm not taking sides with Jason. . He is a smart guy.. and has a good solid grasp on what he is doing.

Maybe someday... he might even beat me in a drag race!!

I do value your thoughts and ideas too Reza. I do enjoy talking shop with when we're together.

I am just trying to avoid the 'tuner war' that follows you everywhere. And it's not the who's right. .. or whos wrong..... it's the attitudes that come out. And it's not doing anyone any favors.

If it's not positive criticism.. then leave it for Facebook.
