Aluminum is extremely tough to get right the first time. I've been doing some arc 4043 with a 1/8 rod and I've repaired a cast column shifter bracket, and steering wheel hub for the tractor. I'm eventually going to try it on 3mm IC piping at 70amps, I can get a solid bead with perfect fusion. But it will require a few practice runs!
