Got time off, I was originally going to be in Calgary the week before for my brothers wedding but he canceled due to losing his house in Fort McMurray. So I don't plan to go out there anymore.
I'll likely be driving down on my own schedule on the Thursday night or something, so we are there for Friday.

I just booked at the Plantation, but not going down until Saturday. I hate to miss the do at Buschurr's shop on the Friday, but there is nothing that interests me happening on the Saturday, so I would just be sitting around all day. I decided to make that my travel day instead. I will be there for the events on Sunday, and ride home Monday morning.

So seeing that CBC will be airing the Tragically Hip final show in Kingston on the shootout weekend, I say we hook up a laptop or an android box and stream it live in the Plantation parking lot. Anyone have a projector and a decent portable sound system?

Jason: Yah the problem I find with roam mobility is no one knows your american number so you don't get any text messages from home. Incoming msgs are free so I just try to limit outgoing and it doesn't cost a heck of a lot more, or for instance, I am with Koodo they offer US plans for X amount of days.
On the topic of the shootout I may shorten my visit and leave Sunday as the wife has been asked to host something Monday afternoon back home and with the slightly lower turnout this year, we shall see. I have until the 12th to modify my reservation.

Previous owner went through 3 alternators before I got it. When I got the car, it was very unhappy about heat and would drop to 12.2 volts. I made this using an an old cookie sheet just for testing. It bolts up to power steering pump bolt. I have never seen my alternator drop below 13.2 since The cookie sheet is starting to crack in the corners. It was pretty flimsy. My next iteration of it I will use thicker sheet metal and wrap it in fiberglass wrap. Also add some new grounds. Especially to alternator if you can. Also check for shorts in wiring.

Thanks Charles. I have an evo X so the alternator is nowhere near the exhaust. Exhaust is now at the back of the motor. So one of 3 things I guess. 1. The Alternator is from 2008 and couldn't take the abuse anymore. 2. I plugged my meth kit into the fuse panel into an unused Fuse marked diesel. Possible i could have shorted out the ecu? 3. Somehow the ECU got corrupted while writing to it during tuning. 4. When installing my transmission I had to move my fuse panels out of the way and somehow I shorted a wire I pulled out the volt meter and checked all the grounds and connections. I dont think its wiring but who knows. New Alternator comes in on Thurs. If that don't work I am staying home

Oops. My bad. I believe there is a fusible link for the alternator built into the battery positive terminal. Picture below shows blown Link. If that is ok, there should be a signal cable to tell the alternator to charge. Make sure it's intact. Other than that.. I don't know much more about evos. Good luck and keep us posted. Hope you make the trip. One of these days I will make it.

Can you get a 1 wire self exciting version of the regulator/alternator and get rid of that signal wire?

I'm not with Rogers so I can't. I have unlimited calls/text/data for the same. Is it cheaper? I know when I was researching Roam was cheaper than using Rogers roam like home.

Yeah see that's a better deal if you ask me, you aren't using up your data from here.
Just make sure the second sim includes data if you want it, sometimes they don't and sometimes they are limited to 3G or EDGE

Yup, all fine and dandy here, zero problems with the car, just the driver was pretty beat after the 13 hour drive Sunday night/Monday morning lol. My bad Jay better to find out by me telling you than it falling off on the track. Nice to finally meet you Ziggy, bought a many parts off you in the past and it was nice to put a face to my dealer lol. I ran a couple test & tune passes, managed a best of 11.8 @ 124, combination of nerves and being up for over 36 hours straight didn't help my consciousness on the launch. Now that the shootout is over, it will be all out at the track to nail off that elusive 10 second pass. I'll have my pics up in the coming days, nice seeing everyone and see you all again next year. Oh and Mike Lane, thanks for letting me pop your SO cherry

Another one down for me as well. I made it home in record timing. Left by myself at 11:30pm and made it home at 3:30am. I may actually do that next year too! I competed in the max effort DSM. I did alright with a best circuit time of 85 seconds. The winner in the Galant knocked off a 75 second pass(no idea how I'd ever get my car to go that fast) The Drag passes I was yet again unprepared for, boost control on the compounds is still out of whack.(surprise surprise) Knocked off a best 12.8s at 26psi with a weak 2.0 60ft. Then raised the boost and went slower... lol Had fun as usual, and was super rewarding beating on a 25year old car in the heat for 6hours of autocross and back to back drag passes, then driving it home. Getting 27+mpg See you all next year.

The big problem with max effort is that it's pretty easily won by a car properly set up to turn as it's a lot easier to gain a few seconds advantage on an autocross/road course than on a drag strip. Most of the cars running faster than mid-10's are not going to do well on an AutoX course whereas any DSM setup to turn can easily be made to run 11's without any compromises.
That being said, it also depends on the AutoX track layout as when they make faster (read: straighter) courses it's typically much closer.
As for me, I am sad I didn't make it out this year but I had a great time at the Dream Cruise and my parents did as well, so no regrets. Definitely plan to be back out in Ohio for the Shootout next year, especially since it's the big 2-5!
Glad to hear everyone had a good time and made it home in more or less one piece.

Agreed, they should multiply the drag pass times or something... I was talking to the galant guy. Asked what kind of suspension setup he was running. he said it was all custom, "special length this, machined plate that, custom valved yadda yadda" I could have ran an 8 second drag pass, but my average autocross time still wouldn't have let me win... Ohwell next year...

I am not going to say they should be wiped off the face of the earth, but I DO think they should get their OWN shootout, and leave the DSM shootout for MITSUBISHI engined cars, as it was before!!
If we wanted to watch GTR's race, we could probably go to any one of many drag race events. I go to Ohio for the DSM shootout!

Our local tracks will let pretty much anything slide, such as 10's without a cage. Hell, they only require helmets at 11.99
Looks like golf cart rentals are no more after that guy split his head open after falling off one Sunday.
Give it time, Buscher is very hot headed and as things cool down, the new "official" rules will be more concrete.

We have, it was called the invasion and was just a one day thing. I haven't had my car running so I haven't organized it like I usually do. I think between myself and Devon(he seems to be the organizer these days) we could arrange the invasion for next year, I know that cayuga is our usual but if people want to do another track maybe we can figure that out, but would also want to figure out a cool route as that was one of the great things about heading through the Hammer.

So here's a stupid question! Why haven't we as a DSM community every tried to set up our own "shootout" event? Has it been tried before, is it the tracks that suck? I mean, I don't think it's impossible and I'm sure we have enough networks especially with Reza and RTM being connected with so many tuner people. Just asking so if you've heard this before then bite me We had our "own" event, DSM's are a dying breed and there isn't the drive, nor the funds for them to do it on their own. If you haven't been to The Shootout, there is NOTHING else that compares, it's not a simple little meet with a few races. It's an event that's taken 24 years to get where it's at. Inviting the Evos years ago and GTRs now are quite simply financial aspects, it can't survive on DSMs alone. The rental cost of a track like that are huge. If there's one thing DSMers are, its cheap, and that doesn't go well with large events. We can't even get 20 DSMs to show up with months of planning for a BBQ, good luck trying to replace the Shootout.

True true... I agree with DSM'rs being cheap. Not to say it has to be just DSM's though. A few weeks ago I saw about 30-40 Subbies getting off on Mavis and 401 to go to a meet at the Subaru Head office. I agree it's not like 24 years of history but maybe it might bite. Cheers

I don't think trying to run a Canadian even IN PLACE OF the shootout makes any sense, but possibly IN ADDITION TO the shootout it might? If it were located somewhere near the Ontario / Quebec border to attract participants from both provinces, it MIGHT have a chance at being a decent event.

Hm that's a good point. Find a place that middle for most, and would like to have some nice roads to cruise through to get there, which is at least my favourite part of the invasion.

We have trouble getting 5 DSMs together on the Quebec side at once, it's just not like the old days. It would be nice though.
Seems like most of the DSM guys in Ontario are in the GTA, which is a long haul from the QC border, Canada is so spread out it makes it difficult.
Ohio is far for me but it's the one chance per year to catch up to friends from all over North America. I also go for the chance to see the big guys, the ones setting records or at least attempting to, I can see 9-12 second cars here on occasion.

This is why I keep pushing Shannonville/armdrop events! It almost the half way point from Kitchener to Montreal.
2 days of racing. Including prepped timeslip drag racing, road course racing, strip clubs and drive in movie theaters, and then another day of grudge match raw unprepped runway racing! With lots of good places to camp, swim, part y.

We can't even get 4 cars together fit a free Fri night drag. No way would we be able to replace the Shootout. For you to even suggest it leads me to believe you have never attended one. Every major shop is there with their race cars. STM, English Racing, Magnus, espec, etc. Cscs is our local event but I never see any of you there.

Maybe this will be the year that all these DSM'rs will get their cars running during the winter and spring time will flourish that good old DSM pride! LOL... Won't be holding my breath! I am in this boat though, not sure how many others are in this group but this summer was far more busy than I anticipated and the car needed more work than I assumed. Next season would be great!
