It's expensive. I made my own a few times this year and it cost $7 for maybe 1/4 lb finished. Still working on the recipe & technique. Definitely better than store bought, but it's a work in progress shuffle

Based on the costs, you might need to do the same.

I'm guessing he used electric because not all flavours were smoky.
That's what I'm doing anyways...

But you must make some however you can! smile

He used a lot of curing salt and smoke flavour. Which isn't bad. It certainly speeds up the process. And if you don't mind your yearly does of sodium in one bite, it's all good smile

Found this...I might try it out.

Pricier than what we're used to, but if it's good, it's all we've got!

I recall we paid $21 per pound correct?

I meant for it to be worth it, because of shipping.

I had some funds left in my paypal and jumped on the link from Bryan.

I'll let you know if it's good. Got the spicy pork, spicy beef, and curry beef.

I ordered from www.bigjohnsbeefjerky.com before Laszlo and I gotta say.. Laszlo wins hands down. I tried their sticks and slabs.. The slab was literally a brick. What a mistake!

I've done it with home grown cayenne for the last batch and I have some scotch bonnets that I've dried. But I want something more exotic. Source for fresh nagas, reapers or scorpions? demon

Michael,

So what's the verdict on the jerky? I got me a fever and there is only one prescription...

The Jerky from this BKH Jerky is not your typical jerky.

It's a wet saucy type that needs to be kept in the fridge.

The pork jerky I bought is better than the beef, the beef is fairly tough.

Overall I don't recommend it, especially for the price.

Nothing holds a candle to Laszlo's stuff so far.

Someone persuade him to make a batch.

I got a reply from him. Doesn't look like he's going to start back up. He's not even sure himself when he's going to.

I offered him $30 a pound.

No reply yet.

frack I might even go up to $40 it's that good.

He's out of the game indefinitely frown

On a plus note, I tried my first ghost pepper. Have a bag of about 12 of them. I first tried half of one with a chicken alfredo penne pasta, it was HOT. But not killer. Then the other half with an already spicy Thai chicken and rice soup. And all I gotta say is WOW!!!! What a nice pepper!

I'd like to get my hands a California Reaper next.

I've been making my own and haven't looked back. Lots of info and recipes on the interweb - you can really own it!

I had some pork loin sitting in the fridge and I tried it for the last batch. You wouldn't even know that it's not beef! That might just be the solution to the cost dilemma since pork is way cheaper. Actually the pork came out more tender and melt-in-mouth with the same flavour.

The only problem is that I can't keep up with my own demand drool

Ooh I like that Rob! Pork is better for you too so this would give a healthier option.

Which dehydrator are you using?

NESCO American Harvest. Very no frills, it doesn't even have a temperature setting.
