A shootout is nothing like a breakaway. In the shootout you see the guys start slow, speed up, spin around, fake shots. A real breakaway you are skating full throttle unless the other team REALLY messed up. You also don't have full concentration on the puck/your shot because you have to keep looking up to see where the defending players are.


If you want to be THAT technical (which I still don't agree with, because breakaways have shown some nice, "I'm taking my sweet time" moves) Penalty shots are IN GAME, and are exactly like shootouts. The point is, if you're a goalie, your goal is to stop the puck no matter what. Saying a certain way doesn't show his true competence is nonsense. That's his job. That's like saying a hockey player can skate incredibly well in game, but sucks when he's with his girlfriend at the park rink and that's ok. It's a talent, reflexes and practice. You do what you're payed to do, period, as long as it's on the ice. If you can't, practice more wink
