Good point Terry! I'm not a tall guy either, but would have definitely figured that out AFTER welding the new brackets in.
No problem Mike, I'm lookin out for ya! Its something that almost screwed me when putting in my Bride seats. I thought about getting those seats, but then I saw the price tag and I don't want to give my GF any idea's when she's riding next to me

Well, you gotta remember. GSX has a power base on the driver side. So immediately I can tell you the driver seat from the RSX is lighter, without the air bags, probably even more so. As for the bolstering, I bought my GSX with 79miles on it, it now was 109 (I think), so the seats were pretty worn in by the time I came across them. I'd say the RSX seat has more lateral comfort in the back section and those bolster are the right amount of comfort IMO. That pic taken above is from tuners, and I'm not trying to "copy" the idea. I'm also not going to say I came up with it either. But I've always LOVED the RSX seats from back when and since owning my eclipse, wondered if I would ever try mounting them into it. Bit of hard work and dreams can come true

Awwww that happened BEFORE me!!! seriously. Also, I'm in the market for a complete floor carpet. WOULD LOVE IT IN BLACK! I have it bookmarked on my netbook but IIRC, Johnny found a link to custom made carpets for a couple hundred bucks. Not a bad idea.

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the airbag portion on the side. Though, I bet that could probably be removed & a new panel sewn in.
You going to fab brackets from scratch or attach our OEM brackets to the seats? I've heard it can be done both ways.
For years I've wanted the evoIX seats but finding the specific ones I want, still in perfect condition (& someone that will ship here) is getting harder & harder to do.
If I want to turn corners this year, I think I need to lose the stock seats, this may be an option, if the bolstering is good enough to keep you in one place.

Well if we ever meet, I'll let you sit in them And the evo9 seat is nice, but I think they don't look "as nice" as the RSX leathers. Hate to sound douchey, but I've always been partial to the ones I found. And for the price, you guys don't even want to know. I plan to grind off the rivets holding the bracket (feet) from the factory sliders from both (dsm and rsx) sliders, then test fit and weld them on. Should come out clean depending on how much of a PITA it is getting those rivets out. The driver seat has ALL the adjustability I need. The base raises and lowers from the front or the back, and these seats were made for coupe so they fold forward (unlike the evo seats made for a sedan) allowing more cargo/passenger room. It even has lumbar control and obviously heater elements for your ass and back.

You're MY hero! Terry has replaced his carpets already and they definitely look good, I know it's not the same site. The site he was using sends you samples so you can make sure you get the right carpet.

The site he was using sends you samples so you can make sure you get the right carpet. I was checking out that site Rob posted and it looks like they send you a sample aswell. But I'm really curious to know whether or not it's worth the extra $128 for the additional padding on the underside. I want to say yes if it's not TOO heavy, given this is a "forever" car and I don't plan to spare any expense now but, is it really needed? Yeah I had a set of these with a short period of time to try to install them in my 1G I had to give them back to the guy it was above my level of skill to make that happen fast. Its a shame they were leather heated and god like to sit in! One of the best seats to swap into but not easily done in a 1G Thanks Jason! I'm looking forward to using them. It's been decided, I will commence the project this weekend

Well based on road noise being something you don't like about tires the extra padding would be worth it as it is a sound deadening material

Still too cold up here to begin.
On top of that, we're expecting another 15cm snow storm tonight.
This time last year pub patios were open and we saw 20*-30*.
I promise I'll document every step I take with this project.
One thing I can tell you, I have yet to determine the seat belt configuration I'll use.
To be on the safe side, I kept the RSX latch's and cut the belts from the RSX to possibly utilize the clips.
Now, if I can get those clips (rsx) onto my cars belts, we're in business. Otherwise I'll have to use the grey buckles from Rob's car (his old seats) by mounting those onto the rsx seats.
Does anyone know if the clip can be removed from the 2G seat belt?

Does anyone know if the clip can be removed from the 2G seat belt? I am going to make the assumption that the internals of the belt are identical to the 1g. So all you will need to do is fully unwind the belt then then you slide it out, there is a little weight at the end of the belt. Once you take that off the clip will slide off and then the other clip will slide on. If you can get a buddy to help that would probably be best that way they can hold the winder(or whatever it's called) in place while you switch the clips.

I was wondering what all the harnesses under the seat were for. I mean, I know there's the side air bag and heater elements but my god, there's at least 4 pig tails under there. Obviously one for the buckle to acknowledge the belt buckle is clipped in. Safe to say, I won't be using ANY of those safety features But I do plan to wire up the heaters.

Best part of the RSX seats is you can rig up a read-out for the passanger weight sensor.. so you are sure not bring home any Fatties. LOL that's gold!

I like this. We should place bets on more activities/builds here on the board! INCENTIVE! I bet your Spyder won't be done by Monday morning... That was never the plan Evo tranny swap this weekend and drop the tranny from the Sypder and/or POR all necessary parts (rear sub frame, control arms, tcase and tranny.) The installing will take place next week (16g, fluidyne, suspension, AWD components) Oh boy will she ever need an alignment. lol. Then repair the hood and touch up the paint

What condition are they in?
They typically fetch $300-$600 They are cloth and I don't think the local wrecker gives a crap (good for me). There's 3 or 4 out there. I should say I want cloth as that's what my car has, I'm not a big fan of leather. My big worry is head room though. I'd like to get them sitting lower then stock, at least on the driver side.

how did you like the rest of the interior Sal, I hear it's not too great. Plus I heard the arm rest is pretty far back and unusable.

The only one I've been in was a tester almost a year and a half ago. Was in it in Michigan, after it had just come back from 5000km of testing on the Nurburgring and a bunch more through Death Valley and other tough terrain. Had all sorts of insane and awesome gadgetry in it, so I can't comment, but from what I recall, it was overall pretty nice. Shifter had a nice feel and the seats were wicked. Kinda like the discussion in the Evo thread, you're not buying this car for its interior

Rob accomplished getting them lower than the stockers. Check out his OCD thread. But be prepared for customizing the floor. I gotta say, rsx seats are the most comfortable and visually appealing seats in any production sub compact car out there. Just my opinion of course. I would snatch all of those up and well... you can guess the rest I might grab them, for $40 you can't go wrong.

Easier said than done. You have an advantage being a circus midget My solution was based SOLELY on height issues, and center line. Like I said before, its been done without doing what I did, but Ill bet my next paycheck, the seats are high, and to the side.

I know what you mean by the height issue. And for the record, I'm 5'7" and I guess you're about 6'7" with your spikey hair ehhh? lool Alright, so I definitely have noticed the outer side of the seat will need to be raised up by about an inch to and inch and a half. Otherwise, the seat is sloping to the out side. I plan to level them using modified feet that may require two nut and bolts to the rail, for secure measure, and the drilled holes to be off center to accommodate the seat being straight to the steering wheel. Why didn't you think of this? Oh ya, you like to take the long hard road I'll have this done by the end of next weekend (fingers crossed).

Mike, don't listen to Rob.
The height thing isn't that big of a deal. I'll post pictures when I get them in and I'll even sit in the seat with a helmet on and you guys can be the judge.
They're just seats. They can be customized how ever you like.
I'm just lucky that I'm not too tall to have to worry about my head hitting the roof liner.
PS. I won't ever sell my car. Seriously!

This is the bottom of the RSX seat. The feet need to come off (as you know). And the original seat belt buckle is still in. There's two wiring harnesses that attach under the seat. One for the sensor and the other for the SRS locking mechanism. Both removed of course and DSM buckle installed. Rob, I tried my dremel first. It's not big enough for the job. So I used my angle grinder and that went a lot faster and smoother. I wish I had a carbide bit! Those rivets are in there GOOD! My recommendation, have some safety goggles and a dust mask handy. There's lots of grinding involved. Will post a pic of what it looks like AFTER removing the feet.

GRR!!!! It's raining today. I got the seat positioned and started customizing the feet. I'm going to have to grab some new drill bits. They're struggling to penetrate from age and abuse. Other than that, everything is going according to plan. If only the rain would STOP, I could frack around with it some more. My garage is cluttered with stored junk, so I can't work on it in there. Will post back with some result later on..

Little update for you guys. I managed to sharpen the drill bits I'm using. It wasn't hard at all lol. They're near perfect, a bit of elbow grease and they're chomping away at the steel strapping I'm using for the custom feet. Wish I had taken a picture of the progress today, but had to deal with a thunder storm, and a bit of maintenance on the MDX to get me to and from work this week. Anyhow, I've managed to make two feet holding the front two bolts using the OEM studs (pics soon). One of the feet is on an angle (which I will eventually make another "foot" for when I have a piece of steel wide enough to compensate for this angle). There was a bit of floor bashing today. I had to lower the inner stud bracket (the one spot welded to the floor) by about 1/4 inch to make room for the customized hard ware. Just the hardware alone that I'm using is a PITA to customize because I'm bolting directly to the rails (in place of rivets, which are short and small), so all of my bolt heads needed grinding. My work week begins tomorrow so I doubt I'll have time this week to get any more progress, but you never know..I may catch a flu or something

Finally got the driver seat done. As you can see, the custom feet needed some bending and shaping. After positioning the seat center and balanced it (using a level), I figured the easiest foot to make first was the one closest to the shifter. The floor needed a bit of "bashing" to make room for the hardware. I also used blocks of 2X4 and 1X4 wood to help position everything. Every one of the bolts heads needed grinding to clear the sliders. Remember, there were rivets here. All in all, I'm VERY happy with the outcome. It's suits me PERFECTLY and I have full functionality of the sliders, reclining lever and base rotary dial. It's straight and level! Although, if I set the base rotary dial in the highest position, and with the back folded fowarded, it hits the roof liner. Regardless, I did all of this while the seat was in it's lowest position and it still clears the roof liner by almost a half inch. FML!!! The passenger seat is next...

Nice work Mike!! Those brackets look damn professional! Have you tried sitting with your helmet on? Thanks you guys! Bryan, no but thanks for reminding me I know there will be space but. The entire seat sits higher by at least an inch. Remember, I'm only 5ft7". G - WTF? Did you buy some seats? ps. don't think I'll need those sparco brackets you found. I have enough of this metal to take care of the passenger side too. Steve - I may bug you in the near future about wiring these bad boys up for some heat.

No worries. But doesnt she sleep through the winters? If it's anywhere near 10*'s out, I'm rockin my heated seats and 32* climate control in my mdx. So seeing as it's only the base (and not both like the mdx), I figure it should be simple considering I have power at the seat (gsx came with a power base), and a location to mount the switches, I just need to know which wire from the seat's pigtail need splicing. I'll likely make a new pigtail, just need to know how many pins I need.

Thanks Terry. That steel is 5mm thick. It doesn't bend easy. In my table vice, I had to "superman" the hammer to it and get it to shape.
I also have a press and for that bracket ^^^ I used a hockey puck to help shape it. I had to get creative here because it's not an easy bend only on a table vice.
Anyway, it's thicker than the OE feet. It's stainless too. But I painted it for added protection.

Those RSX seats looks too high. I think I'd rather just buy the Yonaka's if I want my head to touch the roof. I wouldn't trust those brackets either. I'm just gonna buy some Sparco's with proper install kit for my car Not sure how a 1g compares, but the 2g's really don't have alot of interior height, even for what would be considered "normal" seats in todays cars. Think the stock seats headrest come up to the top of my neck & I'm not tall. They really are short compares to any "real" seat. Even the Evo Recaros will come pretty close to the headliner. I was looking at some different aftermarket seats & with some of them, I'd be worried about them hitting the headliner depending on reclining position. Sucks for seat choice, but sure makes it easy to wash the car. Not like the new cars, even with "compact" cars, you can barely reach the middle of the roof

Darren - You're right. There isn't a lot of head room to begin with. And after a closer look of the sparco brackets, I can't imagine just ANY sparco seat would work in a 2g without touching the headliner.
In fact, I gaurantee all of the sparco seats will if they had a height adjustable base like the rsx seat does.
I did not remove the side airbag. I would like to, but was so tied up with fitment of everything, I overlooked it.

Please disregard the coffee stain, previous owner..not me! Home depot steam cleaner rental I thought my carpet was pretty clean but when I had the interior out years back, rented one. Well worth the $30 or whatever it was, should have seen the water that came out, wasn't pretty. Went over it multiple times, I thought it wasn't bad to start with but came out better, just like new

Bryan - That's not nice. Leave the mom's out of it Haha, I had to! So for the air bags in the seat, is it just the one on the side? Are they easy to remove?
