Well as a couple of you already know I've downgraded my set-up once again. And let me say that this is a bada$$ little turbo. My first impression at 23psi on straight pump gas was WOW! I was totally blown away by the topend of such a tiny turbo. Once I had it dialed in, I was flowing 54lbs/min in 3rd gear@8600rpms. To get an idea of performance, my 70-90mph times are consistantly in the high 1.4s-low 1.5sec range. My car isnt nearly as fast as the old set-up(1.0xsec 70-90mph) but its a lot more fun to drive now. Forced Performance has done it again. I love FP turbos!!! This happens to be my 4th FP turbo (FP RED, FP3575, HTA86, and now HTA68).

I absolutely love my FP Green. If/when I upgrade, it'll definitely be another FP product.

How did you like the HTA86? What prompted the downgrade?

Oh it's tiny compared to what I've been running for the last 10years. The FP3065 looks small to me, so this thing is tiny! lol

The HTA86 was by far the best turbo I've owned! 36psi by 5K and had insane topend. I'm 36years old now, and racing isnt a priority for me any more. Plus my job I'm only home on weekends, so theres just no time for me to get out to the track. I was looking for a more of a street friendly set-up to make it more fun to drive. My 10:1cr motor and HTA68 make for a fun set-up that still makes really good power. I am confident I could still trap high 120's with this, maybe even squeeze out 130mph. If any of you remember my FP RED set-up, this set-up is pulling even harder, AND spools a lot quicker demon

I would say its a worth while upgrade if your willing to push it. Thanks for the review Kevin. I will consider it once I get bored with 16g. Is it correct to say that pushing 30+psi on HTA68 can not be done without meth?

It can be done, especially with stock 1G compression. I had no problem dialling in 24psi with a 10:1cr motor before meth. I'm sure I could get 30psi knock-free tune with my compression too. I didn't go any higher at the time because its all I could get out of my cheap mbc. I'll be trying out ECMlinks boost control with an Ingersoll-Rand solenoid. I can't stand MBCs

I have one and it works realy well! Still needs to be dialed in just like everything else.

So your HTA DSM86 must've looked small too, cause they both share the same compressor housing, haha. Just machined for a bigger wheel on the inside wink

For the size of this turbo you'll be surprised on how it pulls. Kev took me for a spin last night. It felt faster than my evo 16g car when it was running mid 11's.

I love how you guys say it's all in tune.
The entire concept I found in link is fuel maps and timing. Knocking passed 20PSI? well pull timing or add fuel or do both. (Only referring to link v3 when tuning using stock maf with basic stuff dialed in).

I would love to see what settings in link will be for 30psi HTA68 with no meth. Specially the timing map.

Was he able to hold 30 somthing psi on the normal waste gate actuater or did he have to buy FP's stronger 18 psi one ?

Seriously thinking about going to this turbo and getting away from my laggy Slowboy Racing G50.

Had an EVO Big 16G from FP about 8 years ago and I really miss the streetable instant boost...

I Just dield mine in last friday and I am very imprest I am runing it at 29 psi on pump gas and on my stock head stock engine and I am getting over 40 lbs min in my logs laugh

I plan to see how much more I can get out of her befor I have to hrough meth at her wink

Just want to wake this up from the deep sleep.
I pulled the trigger and purchased HTA68 turbo from FP. With recent price drop from 949 to 549 i could not resist anymore. Since this turbo is born from EVO 3 16G (which cost double) it raise the question of how exactly FP is able to make profit of HTA68?

However, i exchanged few emails with FP regading exactly what is different compared to EVO 3 16g. Here is the copy of my answered questions. Hopefully this will help someone.

AlexAk: Is the internally gated turbo uses exactly same wastegate as EVO 3 16g
FP: The wastegate used on the DSM 68HTA is an 18psi actuator and it should hold well up to about 26-28psi of boost

AlexAk: what is the 84 mm flow advancement port? Does it use same TD05h housing or different housing.
FP: The 84mm FAP cover is the same cover used on the GREEN/RED and BLACK turbos. Shown here:

FP: It is a better flowing cover, but definitely not stock appearing. If you do not plan to try and make more than about 425-450whp, the stock style 16g cover will get you to a 400whp mark pretty easily.

AlexAK: is the hot side on 68HTA identical to EVO 3 16g ?
FP: Not identical, but similar. Our turbine housing has a slight bit larger A/R and is an 8cm vs the 7cm of an Evo 3 16g.

AlexAK: is evo 3 16g useful as a core to you?
FP: Sorry, but no the turbo is of no use to us.

The larger compressor covers are considered stock apearing in the stock apearing turbo class at Buschers Shootout. I would guess its becauseof the stock looking and performing exhaust housing.

660.67 shipped to my door. It includes 50$ for internal wastegate option.

If there is a way i can help anyone in Canada please let me know. The current wait time for turbo is 2-4 weeks.

Alex really appreciate the answers. I was not aware that the exhaust housing was bigger too. I was looking at a turbo upgrade for the 14b which was just he compressor housing and the wheel, they did state 47.5 lbs/min with that upgrade which I think sounds good.

Just a little info on the 68hta in case some don't already know. The 68hta that FP sells now is not the same 68hta that they originally produced, changes I believe occurred due to the lack of MHI parts available, obvious the 8cm2 housing from the original 7cm2 housing. The larger housing is also accompanied by a larger turbine wheel as well. From what I can tell the compressor side has remained unchanged.

Both new and old designs reportedly pull well into the upper rpm range without falling off such as 16g etc., the trade off to the new design is a little more lag for a little more lbs/min.

I can not speak for what Kevin ran but i would think the turbo he utilized would be the former 68hta, however his logged flow readings make me wonder if he was running the 8cm2 hot side.

Regardless of generation it's a kick ass turbo for sure.

See to me I disagree Jay, the whole point in the 16g is that you get near stock lag with pull through to stock redline. I think the old one with the 7cm housing would be the new 16g, but I would assume the newer one not so much, though would be good to see some flow charts to full understand how big a difference that is.

I dont think it will be all that much laggier. Call it the laggiest stock appearing turbo, but compared to a T3 frame or higher, I would still consider it NOT laggy. I really dont think you would ever notice the tinny extra lag compared to the 16g.. Or the 20g
But to me the only reason to use this turbo or a 16g is for the stock looking appeal. Obviously price is not a concern. So why not go for the most lb/m.
There are lots of other turbos that will net you more power at the same spool speed for that cost. Or even less.

Holsets and Borgwarners. The bastard 20g is pretty much par with the old hta68. But it comes in td06h which seriously helps the flow.
