no its clean inside, and the spring makes it look like it isnt meant to move much but it moves quite a bit when you see it in action,
the black stuff around the shaft is the one you wanna get rid of, it prevents it from moving back and forth freely.. mine was actually making a clicking noise before I cleaned it because it couldnt move.
if you wanna see it move, just hook it up, and look through the windshied at it while you turn the key to ON.. I was surprised to see it move so much when that spring is so hard to compress. Power of magnets..
