I've camped at Cayuga before, and I've always had a blast! If enough ppl are up for it, it would make for one hell of a night. Hmmm, I wonder if we can wake up at 3am for some arm drop-style racing If I win, I take the cash, AND THE RESPECT

I suggested camping 2 pages back, guess it wasnt cool then lol haha, sorry man, there's been a ton going on in this thread, and I have mostly just been looking at the people who are signing up to come. Camping is a great idea though for sure. Would that change the meet up date to the 4th though? Or could we camp there Sunday night ?

Although camping would be fun, i don't think it's a good idea because the people who want to camp would have to go on Saturday night, which defeats the initial purpose of the "cruise". Initially we wanted to do a cruise, then we decided to cruise to Cayuga, and now it's turning into a Cayuga camping trip? lol I think we should keep it as planned: meet up at yorkdale Sunday morning, pick up people along the way and eventually have a big cruise to Cayuga. If people want to spend the night, they can camp Sunday night. And the rest of use will cruise back on the way home. Wouldn't that make more sense?

I tossed around the idea of the cruise a few yeras ago after attending the Fraser Valley Tour out here in BC, and tried to bring the idea back here to Ontario. One of the cool things about it was the fact that a track event WASN'T part of it, it was a day long cruise, with a couple of coolers and portable BBQ's thrown into the hatches and just a bunch of good friends getting together for a drive. Perhaps a thought would be to move the "Cruise" aspect away from this race weekend, do the camping at Cayuga and maybe do a cruise another weekend without racing involved...Just a thought. I will attempt to post some past trip reports from the BC DSM site, I would at this point, but they are in the process of restoring the site after a server migration. Here's some info from the 2005 tour which started at the races the day before. http://dsm.labattz.com/bc-dsm/fraser_valley_tour.htm

I agree with Tim Hunt. I think the cruise should be different than a race day at Cayuga.
I am not racing because when I do plan on racing, I'm coming with the trailer and slicks etc. etc. That is not a cruise for me, that is race day.
Plus when you have 20 to 30 DSM's at the track with majority of you racing, all it will take is a few busted DSM's to frack up the day. Good luck having CAA catering to all the broken cars. No thanks, thats why I'll be watching.
A cruise will be what it is. I love driving and wouldn't mind cruising somewhere even farther, bbq's etc, chill out, whatever.
I mean a bunch of DSM's going to the track, is more like race day, not cruise day.
I'm still down for whatever you guys want to do.

Here here Reza and Tim.
We tried to organize a cruise last year and end up at Shannonville, it didn't work out. If we do a cruise this year, it would be nice NOT to race at the end of the day.
It would be nice to get off the 400 series highways, head out towards the KW area where there are some nice roads and nice scenery, get some pictures of the group, find a parking lot and just full out enjoy the day as a CLUB!

The reason for going to Cayuga, is that for the people driving 4 - 6 hours out of town, I highly doubt they want to drive around backroads for another 3. We will get a couple nice hours of driving from yorkdale to cayuga, as well as have a few hours at the track to take a break from driving, and also have a nice little BBQ there. The camping is mostly again, for the out of towners, who don't want to drive for a total of 12 hours a day, and why not give them some company with some beer and a campfire with some jokes If you know of any good places to go bbq / camp that aren't at Cayuga, then let me know where it is from there, and we can boot up there after the track and go chill there. There's lots of options, we just have to make sure we accommodate the people who live an hour away, and the people who live 6 hours away.

Exactly what I had in mind. I agree with you too Brandon, but this is not an everyday thing. Heck I'll even drive 4 hours up to North Bay, then to Ottawa and back to Toronto. Yea I'm crazy. Anyways whatever works out for everyone will be fine

It seems like this should be two separate events. If the people driving 6 hours do get here don't feel like driving on back roads for another 3 or 4, maybe there should be a "track weekend" when they come down. Maybe this should be done in conjunction with a "Peckerhead shootout"?
for those more local who want to cruise back roads WITHOUT going to the track, maybe there should be a "cruise day"
I am definitely down for the track....not sure I would take the time just for a cruise with no racing...
Anyways, it sounds like maybe this should be thought out a little more and divided into two events...

To keep it simple, and not divide the amount of people we have to two different events, I think we should keep it as is. I mean, people signed up for what was originally planned so changing it will also change the list of people coming.
For those that just want to cruise, they still get the cruise, some can camp at the end of the day, others can go home.
Watching other DSM's race is simply a bonus. The club can cheer them on. "I" want to see other DSM's go down the track rather than hear about it on the forum or watch noisy videos on youtube.

First of all the road from Yorkdale to Cayuga, anything but scenic and fun, and as Reza says : I am not racing because when I do plan on racing, I'm coming with the trailer and slicks etc. etc. That is not a cruise for me, that is race day.
Plus when you have 20 to 30 DSM's at the track with majority of you racing, all it will take is a few busted DSM's to frack up the day. Good luck having CAA catering to all the broken cars. No thanks, thats why I'll be watching.
Thats a great reason to change it. This "cruise" to Cayuga doesn't have to die, it's just another option could be worked out, and let the people decide what they wish to do. It's not like the event is next weekend. When I attended the FVT out here in BC, where one of the BCDSM members actually gave me a DSM to drive for the day, probably one of the coolest DSM experiences, eclipsed only by the time we went to the DSM shootout by boat.

I'm definitely not racing. I'll watch. I'm there for the cruise and to chill with the guys. Watching other DSMs race is just a bonus like Ju said. I dont see why we can't make this just one day's event. The cruise can consist of driving there and back, hopefully on main highways/roads as opposed to back roads.

Ok, so lets just keep it as is. Yorkdale to Cayuga. We can always plan a real cruise some other time. Summer hasn't even started yet, so theres enough time for that If your planning on racing, please make sure your car is running well and is safe before going down the strip. Theres no point in racing with a half assed car, like shifting problems, leaks etc. That is just asking for trouble, and your cruise back home will end up being in the passenger seat of a tow truck

Lets just keep it as it is! Meeting up at yorkdale, cruise to cayuga, stop and take some pictures of our cars, nice footage from my camera. And then chill at the track, eat some food, watch some races. We've got over 30 people signed up for the plan that was already set. So the cruise / track day will be something that everyone is expecting and that's what we are sticking too There is no reason we cannot have an invasion part duex where it's just a cruise later on in the year.

Haha, any exhaust you get I'm sure we could manage to install. Exhausts are just bolted to these cars anyways I'll have some jackstands, and a jack, as well as some tools with me, just in case. If you guys want to camp the night before, just discuss it with the people from out of town. Maybe there will be a nice camp site by Yorkdale, can chill, and then be at Yorkdale for 9 the next day. Or if anyone knows of any places people could just hang out, camp out / sleep in there cars around there, let me know, or post it here. also, if the people from out of town just want to drive to and camp at cayuga instead of meeting at Yorkdale, that's a possibility as well. Cayuga charges like $25 to camp there.

I guess we could camp it out on Saturday night. Cayuga is 5 hours from me, so if I leave midway though the races, I could make it home at a decent time, even leaving at 5 gets me home at 10. Either way, I would like to camp somewhere be it Saturday or Sunday night. No way am I driving there and back in one day. But I should make it. Might run a pass or two just to get a baseline for the car.

The day is still Sunday Mike, that's not changing, it's just the out of towners deciding if they want to come camp out and party Saturday night then meet up 9am on Sunday at Yorkdale

I would say keep it as is. That is what people signed up for. Cayuga will just be the meeting place and if people want to race let them at it. My place is in Hamilton, which is not that far away, and if people want to crash there I have 2 extra beds and lots of floor space.
If we want to plan another event go to it (please do!), but it would be nice to get everyone out and this combines the best of both worlds, racing and cruising, so more people are interested.

There are several areas people can camp around the GTA. And then we can all meet at Yordale in the morning and head to Cayuga. That's what I'm sayin. If my backyard had a fence, I would say people could just toss up some tents. But my driveway only holds like 4 cars, haha.

I'll be there, just not sure what car! Tranny should be fixed in the next week or so but there's lots of time and a couple of events between now and then so we'll see. I just bought a house and can't afford to fix anything else this year.
I've got a backyard big enough for a couple of tents if anyone is interested. Sat or sunday night
