I would, and I support the logic behind the petition, but, being from BC, I cannot.

I've signed it and passed the link on to friends. Making it illegal to have aftermarket parts on a street driven car is the single WORST thing the government could do. It would kill our favourite hobby and make us all criminals. I hope this petition works.

Exactly, if I could afford to buy a Porsche 911 I would, but I can't so I mod my Talon to the horsepower potential of a 911, whats wrong with that? doesn't mean I'm gonna race the car on the street. Should I be punished just because I can't afford an expensive, fast sports car? hell no.
Cars don't race, its the drives behind the wheel that do, doesn't matter if the car is modded or stock.

Moi. Good job man. I'd like to think I speak for everyone when I say "thanks" All I could think of as I was reading the bill was: aren't we at war? Don't Al Queda and Hamas walk amongst us? Wasn't some scum photographing the Canadian Parliament for recon? Shouldn't we be pushing anti-terroism bills, power of search, surveillance etc etc. Canada hasn't got the a$$frack yet but when they do I'm sure a bill like this would be shelved.

Time for a protest. Lets call all modified cars to the 401 and block it off a la trucker-style creating a 1/4 mile track. Media would eat it up.

I really think this online petition will have minimal effect. We all need to call our provincial MP. Also, the petition only covers section 172.2 and I am sure people here will disagree with other parts also. We need to make sure every MP in Ontario gets multiple calls regarding this bill if it is to be stopped. Incase anyone hasn't read the bill yet I suggest you do http://www.ontla.on.ca/documents/Bills/37_Parliament/Session3/b241_e.htm

I'm making a paper copy of the petition and bring it into work (Canadaian Tire) I'm gonna try to get the owner and management behind it and I'm gonna push to get all our automotive customers to sign.
a petition may not have a big effect, but if you hand in several hundred (or thousand) signatures as well as get people to contact thier MPP... SOMEONE will sit up and notice that we won't take this lieing down. I like the idea of a rally or something to give this media coverage, but we shouldn't engage in any sort of racing as that would just prove to the gov. that this bill SHOULD be passed. if we blocked off a major section of an Ontario road, the media would be there in no time, then we would have our voices heard across the province.
The biggest problem we face is that the government has included this little bit that we are fighting against into a larger Bill that most people would support. The rest of Bill 241 is fine... but we CAN NOT allow section 172.2(1) to become law. That is the part that adversly affects the performance car enthusiasts. Oh... and if I'm reading this right... this bill will also affect motorcycles and trucks that have "prescribed" parts... not just cars. Everyone, take a few minutes of your time and send a letter to your MPP... if they get several hundred of these things opposing the Bill, we may have some support in Queens Park... NO politician wanst to look bad with an election comming up!

OK heres the section ... Prescribed substances, equipment for racing prohibited172.2 (1) No person shall drive or permit to be driven on a highway a motor vehicle with a prescribed part, containing a prescribed substance or equipped with prescribed equipment in prescribed circumstances.Ok, thats what were pissed about .... But what about this last part ... Regulations 172.2 (9)The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations,
(a) prescribing substances, parts and equipment commonly used in racing for the purpose of this section;
(b) prescribing circumstances for the purposes of subsection (1);
(c) exempting any class of persons or vehicles from any requirement or provision of this section or of any regulation made under this section, prescribing conditions for any such exemptions and prescribing different requirements for different classes of persons or vehicles.[part (a)] ..this could be any part or substance .. including gas,oil. Or part/vehicle. Heck, for racing .. no one even NEEDS any modified parts. They can just race a stock car, or an S.U.V. (which usually end up rolled over in the ditch as a result) . But on the serious side .. this part also bites. [part (c)] So .. this means that one person can determine what we can put in a car/ who can do it/ and to what car we an do it to ? Great ..another pencil pusher's gonna make living hell for us car guys (and gals).
