Hey Guys,

Im at a bit of a loss with the install of my big16g..

So.. Ive got a 98 gst, with a 7 bolt.

Stock turbo died, so I seized the opportunity to upgrade. Stock intercooler was shot too so I picked up a punishment FMIC from Ziggy (long ago)

Finally getting to the install after accumulating parts for two years...Immediately I noticed that the turbo needed to be clocked to line up with the jpipe.. so I did that.. Got everything bolted up EXCEPT THE FRICKN WASTEGATE ACTUATOR! So once I clocked it the spot where it mounted before isn't where it needs to be and if it were, the Jpipe is in the way. Can you guys shed some light? some pics of similar setup?

Heres a complete list of related components im running..

FP intake with recirc
16g turbo
tubular manifold
atmosphere dump 02 housing

Any help would be appreciated.. Did lots of reading but was unable to find specific info on this issue and im sure someone has ran into this that can chime in

thanks in advance

ryan

You shouldn't have to clock your 16g compressor housing to make it work. 16g should have stock placement for actuator and the j pipe should orient airflow around the comp cover and towards the bottom (be that a little to the passenger side or driver side depending on j pipe you chose)

Mine looks like that now after having to clock it (and grind that dowel down) I will definitely get some pictures here asap, im away for a wedding this weekend but plan on attacking it on Monday. I did read on some write ups that other guys had to clock their 16g's as well but they didn't go into detail about how they mounted to WGA. I'm guessing that some 16gs were orientated differently?

I didn't think you could clock the compresser housing and still use an internal wastegate.

Is there an orientation pin present in your turbine housing? That will line up the CHRA so it's orientated correctly for oil Flow. As for the compressor housing, I'm pretty sure there's a pin there as well to clock it correctly.
As GB said, it's a stock replacement. That being said, I've seen some shotty j-pipes in my time that aren't manufactured correctly, therefore giving the illusion that your turbo isn't clocked correctly.
