Anybody have the dash lights quit?
The button lights and warning lights are working but the dash back lights are gone...sometimes comes back after a while.
I'm thinking dimmer switch?

do you have a tail light, or marker light out? the dash lights going out are like a warning system to notify you something is wrong.

i've got the same thing, my climate control lights are always out, but the gauge lights work most of the time, once in a while they'll turn off too, but if i play with the dimmer switch they come back on.

clearly a bad dimmer switch for that problem, we'll see if the climate control lights work after i replace the dimmer, i really hope so.

i know for sure i don't have any lights out, i just replaced a couple bulbs and checked the rest of them a couple days ago, same thing before and after.

mine's a '93 tsi awd if it makes a difference.

If all the back lighting is out then it will be the rheostat (dimmer switch). When mine went out, you could play with it and sometimes get the lights to come back on, eventually it went totally dead. It's an easy fix.

Brendan, your climate control bulbs are toast and will not come back by replacing the switch. I ordered replacements from a dealer without asking a price and they raped me for $24 for two tiny 1.5V bulbs. They are the same bulbs used for the rest of the dash lighting so I recommend getting them from someone's part-out.

i don't think it's the bulbs, it's the climate control lighting, and all of the buttons on either side of the driver for the fog lights, dimmer switch, hazard, defrost and rear wiper.

sorry, should have been more specific before.

I had my oil pressure/coolant temp lights go out on me the other night. A good solid hit of top of the dash fixed it right up.
