picked up an act 2100 and street disk on sunday. went to throw it in the car today and the problem is the plate and disk are physicaly larger by about 1/2". the bolt holes on the 2100 don't line up with the holes on the flywheel and the plate and disk are larger than what came out of the car. WTF?

Do not have a part number. **Should have mentioned in the OP that it was bought used at the garage sale from the asian guy with the galant; I forget his name (chris??) would the clutch be different from a 6bolt to a 7bolt, or a 1g to a 2g, or are all 4g63's the same part numeber?

http://www.dsmparts.com/customer/home.php?cat=16ACT DSM 2100 Pressure Plate
Fits: all turbo DSM 90-99 Talon, Eclipse, and Mitsubishi Galant Vr-4 91-92What year is the VR4, and is it the original transmission there? CAPS would say if it changed, and even states the diameter. I'm not near it right now though, sorry! //edit From what I read, the early VR4s ('88-'90) weren't available here, so maybe it's an earlier (different) JDM trans in there?

1g, 2g, 6 bolt and 7 bolt 4g63 TURBO all take the same clutch. Non turbo is different.

motor in the talon is a 7bolt red top motor. the seller of the car told me that the engine had been replaced approx. 3yrs ago when the timing belt went. as far as i know it is the stock 94awd tranny.

Well then, there goes my theory! FWIW, CAPS only gives me the regular 225mm disc for the 4G63 Galant - But I'm not sure if my CAPS has data on the early models.
Mike, it might help if you could post some pictures of the old clutch & flywheel that you pulled out. The number on the transmission too while you're at it.
It's looking like someone swapped in an odd flywheel/clutch (and transmission if the teeth on the flywheel don't line up to stock). Maybe non-turbo clutch/disc/flywheel? With AWD transmission, the starter should still work. The flywheel will have no step, and the disc will be 215mm. I'm not sure where this puts the bolt holes for the PP to FW bolts.

http://www.roadraceengineering.com/clutchandflywheeltech.htmScroll down to the section on Early JDM Flywheels. It might give you some insight as to what you've got in there.
Now, I'll have all kinds of time to talk about DSMs, because I won't be busy fixing mine!

Ok...update time. The motor in my car is a red top 6 bolt swapped in when the orig. 7 bolt was a timing belt victim. The flywheel pulled from my car has no step and is slightly smaller than a flywheel i pulled out of a red top 6 bolt turbo motor from a wrecker to try and match up. The ACT PP is good as it matched perfectly to the wrecker flywheel. Problem is that the known good flywheel does not line up with the teeth on the starter motor in my car and the ring gear rubs against the starter housing. Where do I go from here? I will try to get pics tomorrow when the tranny gets dropped again .....anyone wanna buy a white 94' TSi for a good price? PM please

anyway to tell when i go back to the wrecker to exchange the FW if the motor is FWD / AWD? i'm guessing that the awd flywheel will be smaller?

woohoo! Went back to the wreckers, and sure enough out of the hundred AWD motors sitting there I pick the FWD one Went back and got the correct one that is now the right diameter to engage the starter.
