Anyone know a place I can get a master set of front suspension bushings for my 97 Spyder GST?

I have only been able to find one place. DSMPARTS.com, and they want $100 to ship them, that's crazy.

The ES master set for 2g is $125., I would need to order it in. Shipping to Nova Scotia I am GUESSING would be about $20 - $25.
If interested, email me:

1g's they don't make a master kit..you have to order individually. There are:
front control arm bushings (same for FWD or AWD)
rear control arm bushings (specify FWD or AWD)
subframe mounts (specify FWD or AWD)
front sway bar bushings (specify FWD or AWD)
rear sway bar bushings (AWD only)
tie rod end boots (same for FWD or AWD)
rear track arm bushing set (FWD only - I THINK for AWD they are with the rear control arm bushings)

Let me know by email what you are interested in, and I will get you pricing...

Now, in all honesty, is it really worth the money as an upgrade? Or just better to spend the money when you need to replace them?

Nobody likes a sloppy ride!

I've put in the control arm bushings and they actually help to get rid of phantom knock, especially around the corners, when you really just want to stomp it and go.
What a bitch to install though...

Now, would it be easier to do the following (maybe to get them in easier):

Unbolt the rear engine mount.

Remove the p/s hookups/lines.

Drop the whole damned subframe (I do believe it's only a few bolts)

Clean up the subframe and take your time in doing it. Would be a good time to powdercoat stuff to keep it from rusting.

Ryan, Next time I would do that. It's amazing what you find when your under there, I found a missing gusset from my fwd subframe, as a result the subframe had cracked causing the car to be dangerous around the corners. That crack was noticed by me before but it had been welded but still handled like crap because the gusset was missing, replaced it from a parts car, handles like a porsche now. I've considered adding more gussets to strengthen it even more.

Also helps when you replace (along with bushings), the tie rod ends, ball joints and wheel bearings and get an alignment.

Instead of torching the old bushings off/out I got a guy in Colborne to press them out and do the wheel bearings and ball joints while he was at it.

Bahh.. my front ball joints and wheel bearings are less than 6 months old.

I now have a paved driveway (YES!!) so I may do that.

I plan on road racing my car in the spring/summer so I am overhauling the entire suspension this winter.

Some advice on poly bushings... Drill / tap / install grease fittings on each of them.

Over time the metal inserts tend to rust and tear up the bushing. By installing grease fittings and giving them a couple pumps each oil change, they'll last much longer.

Scott,

Can you provide a little more detail on that? What exactly are you installing the grease fitting into?

Typically, the bushing is inserted into a metal suspension component. So you drill a hole through the metal and halfway through the bushing (until you reach the center or inner sleeve). Then you tap the hole, screw in a grease fitting, and pump it fill of grease.

Here's a Porche VFAQ which describes the procedure...
