Hey guys, I'm back into the Talon fold again, this time with a decent budget We (Darren Foo, my teamate and I) built up a 1991 Talon AWD to be an auto-x and hillclimb terror. Our first goal was to build a proper race engine, none of this girly stuff I used to run before, this thing had to make some serious, reliable power with good driveability. The second goal was to make it handle, but using new thinking in suspension setup, not the old "stiffer is better" thinking that I used before. The third goal was to make the car stop, really, really well. It had to rival my 944TS in braking and the TS has massive brakes from the 928S4's. The fourth goal was to make the car stick at high speeds using aerodynamics. I am a huge fan of downforce and wanted to use it on my racecar. The fifth and final goal was to go out and win E/SP in B.C. and to start the path to taking some hillclimb records. So far, we've got goal 1 taken care of. We took the car out to MRP for a 1/4 mile day to see where we're at power wise. I'm glad to say that Lowell Foo and Ryan built and tuned an incredible motor for us. I turned a 12.2 @ 116mph first run out, no addtional tuning from their base settings. I hadn't even drag raced in like six years! We were getting very low knock at 20psi, so Lowell bumped it up to 25psi and I went 12.19 @ 118mph with a worse 60' time. The track was too greasy to get into the 11's and we were running 6 year old tires. Maybe next time. For the second goal, we have ordered a double adjustable suspension from Koni using 550/450 lbs/in springs F/R. The Konis are being revalved so that the midpoint of adjustment is perfect dampening for those spring rates. We're also running Carrer camber plates again and all the suspension bushings are either nylon or poly now. The rear passive-steering toe adjustment has been disabled. For the third goal, we are talking to TCE right now about a 13" brake upgrade, perhaps even going for a 13x1.25" system. For the fourth goal, rear spoiler and front air splitter are being engineered right now. We can't run wings due to the rules, but we can use a spoiler. The car will look pretty riced out, but I don't care as long as I win. As for the fifth goal, with the car sitting as it is (no brakes, suspension or tires) we are about 3 seconds off the pace we need to be at to be competitive. If suspension, tires and brakes give me 5 seconds, then I'm where I want to be. To see vidoes of the car, check out http://www.novustelecom.net/~fkassam/videos BTW - does anyone know Danny Yoo's email address? Hey Farzaan, Those are some nice runs. I saw the vids a couple days ago. The porsche runs are very nice! I remember seeing a picture of your old red talon that everybody was talking about, then right beneath it were pics of it all wrecked. A drunk driver swerved at my car and hit the rear after he had passed us (oncoming). The car spun around and hit a tree with some pretty massive force. It was very wet that day. The car had over $32k in damage so they wrote it off. fc-racer ------------------ Race:1991 Eagle Talon AWD - 12.194 @ 118mph / Street:1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S - 13.811 @ 104mph

"Decent budget," "none of the girly stuff I had before..." Farzaan, can I hit you REALLY hard? Most people here are probably just dreaming of attaining the performance level that your old car had... Myself included. (:
Glad to have you back, though. You know you belong in a DSM... (:

Hey Farzaan! How's it going! Glad to see that you're on the UBB! Best wishes on your races this year and it sounds like you'll be more than competitive! Keep us posted on your wins/races and kills! 6 year old tires! HOLY! It's time to get some sticky stuff man! Those are hockey pucks not tires! Take it easy and it must feel great swingin' again! ------------------ Slowpoke, The Black Plagued 91 AWD

Welcome back Farzaan!
Hey, re-register yourself on here ok? The system cleared you out, because it didn't recognize a normal full name (ie: "First Last")

Hi, I've now re-registered using a firstname [space] lastname method so hopefully I don't get bumped off I didn't mean "girly" in the bad sense. I know how hard it is to afford things, heck my credit card declined just today! I meant it more in the sense of parts that are not suitable for the type of racing I do. For example, my competitions' motors are all fully built V-8's sporting 455ci's, superchargers, etc, etc. You aren't going to beat these guys using a 16G! I'll keep you all up to date on how things go. Right now, just sorting out the brakes. Farzaan ------------------ '91 AWD Racecar - 12.19 @ 118mph '89 944 Turbo S - 13.81 @ 104mph

I was just ribbin' ya'. Everything is relative. If I ever manage to get a job I'll probably look back on what I was like these days and laugh. (: Racing, at the level you want to be at, is not a cheap hobby.
And as for sorting out the brakes, I can make it easy. Make sure they stop you. (:
