two weeeks ago took 92 talon awd turbo to dealer to replace water pump and timing belts. on bill they charged me for 2 timing belts and 3 drive belts.next day had to be towed back to dealer to replace alternator (2 months old).
today hear a flapping, grinding sound from engine and oil pressure gauge no longer works.
find remnants of a belt under engine plus a blue wire from alternator has been shredded.
belt appears to have come from back and lower pulleys (can you tell I'm not a mechanic)
timing belt appears to still be there.
would this belt be the ac belt and if so can I drive this car back to the dealer?
also would the oil pressure gauge not working be tied into that blue wire?
thanks for any help guys, can't really afford another $100 tow .

There is a sensor that hooks onto the oil cooler which monitors your oil pressure. Dont know about anyone else but mine popped off after racing a vette on the highway and hit 230, now as for the belts, It coould be youre crankshaft pulley. Its really hard to say without visually seeing the car.

2nd Timing Belt is probably the Front Balance Shaft Belt which is good to have replaced at the same time as the main Timing Belt.

The grinding noise you hear is probably from the Harmonic Balancer comming apart. The munkey that did the work probably fucked it...

Blue wire should be the one for the Oil Pressure Sending unit, that is why your Pressure Gauge is not indicating. Fixing it shold not be too hard.

As for driving the car back; It's hard to tell without been there to see and hear what is going on under the hood. Phone the Garage that did the repair and ask them to tow it back at their cost, that is what I'd try to do if I were in your shoe. Other option would be for someone to have a look at it.

Hope this helps.

Ghislain.

if this belt was anything other than the A/C belt
would this car even be runing?

Is the Oil Low Pressure Light on??? If yes; don't drive it. If it's not on the odds are that you have sufficient Oil Pressure. Again, it hard to make a call without been there to make an acurate assesment.

Note; Their is two Oil Pressure Indications. First one is the Gauge the second is the Low Oil Pressure Light.

the service manager at the Chrysler dealer that did the pump, belts and alternator assured me that his mechanic knew these cars inside out(trust me the cheque's in the mail, etc. etc)
On my invoice for the job they list 5 belts that were replaced. How many belts are there on these cars?
thanks for all your help so far!

without taking a look at your car (or hearing the sounds) its hard to determind the severity of the problem.

as for belts,

Timing Belt
Balance Shaft belt
Alternator Belt
Power Steering belt
A/C coompressor belt

I wouldn't drive it unless someone takes a better look at it.

so if there are only 5 possible belts on the car and the chrysler dealer billed me for replacement of 5 belts, then am I safe to assume his mechanic did not seat the ribbed belt in the grooves properly and this problem is his fault?
